About the Office of Diversity & Equity
The Office of Diversity & Equity is responsible for the coordination, communication and clarification of the University of Kansas' commitment to diversity and equity in its faculty, staff, students and educational programs. The office assists the university in promoting an awareness, sensitivity, and commitment to diversity throughout the campus community. It provides leadership in promoting an environment responsive to the diversity of groups represented at KU.
A university committed to diversity KU welcomes the challenge of engaging with difference, and is an open community willing to have lives impacted by ideas, people, values, perspectives or lifestyles that are run counter to its zones of comfort. A primary objective of the University of Kansas is to prepare students to live in an increasingly complex and multicultural society. Diversity excites the classroom and facilitates the learning process; it helps solve problems; it broadens the gifts of culture and facilitates ones ability to communicate and connect with other cultures. It continues the democratic project of making us more human.
The Office of Diversity & Equity is a conduit for this KU diversity initiative. As an institution of distinction, the University of Kansas is committed to thoroughly integrating theory and practice and placing diversity in action as a core value of the institution.
